FAQ

What can I expect from a newborn shoot?

The most important for your newborn shoot is to be calm! If you are calm your baby will be calm. The biggest triggers in newborn shoots for babies to be unhappy are parents who don't want to be there, parents who is anxious, or parents who don't like me wrapping their babies. Communicate with me if you are uncomfortable. It is my objective that you and your baby is as comfortable as can be.
Newborn shoots are long (2-3 hours) and unexpected. Some babies like to be wrapped and sleep as soon as they are wrapped. Other babies might have a wind causing discomfort and take a while to be settled. We work with your baby in which ever space they are in. You can sit back and have a coffee/tea while we work with your baby.
I usually start with the baby photos first and then move to the family photos. If you have an older toddler I will request for them to come in later, so that they don't get restless or annoyed.

How should I prepare for a newborn session?

Your baby should be fully fed and enjoy a warm bath before you leave for the studio. (If you live far from the studio, I recommend feeding your baby at the studio. If you live close by you can feed your baby just before you leave for the studio.) This will give me a sleepy baby which is exactly what I need. Please remember your nappy bag with wet wipes, powder and everything else you use for cleaning your baby. Also bring along your pacifier, if you use one, and a small bit of milk in a bottle, if possible. Place the nappy very loose to prevent wrinkles in the skin. Wear plain coloured clothes that doesn't have lots of detail, lines or blocks. We want the focus to be on the baby :)

Where are you based and do you travel?

I'm based in Durbanville, Cape Town, and yes I love to travel! If you want me to photograph your story, it will require a travel fee and/or stay over fee, depending on where it takes place.

When will we get our photos?

Within a couple of days from the photo session you will receive a link with all the photos I took, here you can choose your selection of photos.
About two weeks later you will receive an online gallery link with all your photos. You can download all the high resolution photos from the gallery to share, print and enjoy!

How many pictures will we receive?

Each package on the Investments page will specify the amount of photos included. I always choose quality rather than quantity. To make sure that you will be happy with the given photos, I give you the option of choosing your photos. If you want more photos than what it in your package you are welcome to purchase more.

Why do people want to have their child's birth photographed?

A birth is a once in a lifetime event that goes by in a flash. It is usually so overwhelming that the parents rarely remember everything. Having your child's birth photographed gives you the opportunity to look back at the photos and remember the special emotions that you and your partner shared on that day. Most of the time I find that toddlers find a place of belonging in these photos when they see where their lives started, and the joy with which their parents received them.

Will I be able to meet the photographer before I choose to hire her for my birth?

Yes, absolutely! I offer a free coffee consultation with all my clients at my studio in Durbanville. I prefer meeting my clients face to face. It is also necessary to talk about your Birth Plan and to give you the opportunity to ask questions.

What do I wear for my photo session?

This is a very good question and very important when you are planning for a photo session. It is extremely important to feel confident in what you wear, and to wear something that is true to who you are.
Here are some extra things to keep in mind: avoid clothing with brand names or logos, avoid busy clothing with lots of patterns, stick to a colour scheme and season if there are more than one person involved, choose a colour that complements your skin tone, and timeless clothing is always a winner so that you can use the photos for years to come.

How long do you keep our photos?

After I have delivered your photos via your online gallery, I do not keep your photos. Be sure to back it up somewhere safe, where you can access it for years from now.
